OPPORTUNITY
CrossFit Lumberjack lost 4 members the day of the attack at Fort Hood. Also, the families and the other victims of this tragedy need our help and here is how we are going to do it.

CrossFit Fort Hood has graciously invited our CrossFit Community to join with them on Saturday, December 4th at 10am to perform the new Hero Memorial WOD - Lumberjack 20.
If you would like to participate, please register at Lumberjack 20.

Please let us know if you plan to participate, so we can organize our group. The workout will be scaled as needed and we would love if eveyone helped raise money for this worthy cause.

I thought that cashews were considered to be legumes and therefore not a paleo item to be consumed a whole lot. Is the correct or am I off my rocker? Maybe it's just splitting hairs but I am curious.

The cashew is a seed. However, getting to it requires roasting.

Here is the entry on cashews - "Although a nut in the culinary sense, in the botanical sense the fruit of the cashew is a seed. The seed is surrounded by a double shell containing a dermatogenic phenolic resin, urushiol, a potent skin irritant toxin also found in the related poison ivy. Some people are allergic to cashew nuts, but cashews are a less frequent allergen than nuts or peanuts."
...
"The urushiol must be removed from the dark green nut shells before the seed inside is processed for consumption; this is done by shelling the nuts, a somewhat hazardous process, and exceedingly painful skin rashes (similar to poison-ivy rashes) among processing workers are common."

So, it must be roasted. So must the coffee bean. You want to be hard-core paelo - leave out the cashews, the coffee and the green beans. For the challenge, they are permitted.

If you are still having stomach issues, you get heartburn and you are eating cashews - eliminate them from your diet.

Thanks for the info Robin. I guess I read incorrect information about cashews, which makes me sad b/c I love them! Thanks for clearing it up.
